Overview:
When you resume business after a disruption, you want to pick up where you left off. That means minutes, or even seconds, before the lights went out or the computer virus struck. Every organization strives for backup that offers as close to zero data loss as possible. Unfortunately, with tape backup or even scheduled disk backup intervals, the data you recover may be hours, days or even weeks old. The lost data between emergency and recovery can be the real disaster for a business.

Traditional archiving can leave gaps in your data protection. Tape is fine for archiving, but, for disaster recovery, it can't meet short recovery time objectives (RTOs) or recovery point objectives (RPOs). Disks can recover data quickly, but, if you back up only intermittently, you run the risk of losing data added in the interim. If your business is aiming for zero data loss and zero downtime, there's only one choice - continuous data protection (CDP).
